2018 Foot Osteoarthritis Masterclass

SASMA held a Foot Osteoarthritis Masterclass on Monday the 13th of August at the University of South Australia’s City East Campus. In this live masterclass, Dr Jill Halstead-Rastrick and Dr John Arnold provided attendees with current best practice guidelines regarding management of foot OA. Having come from podiatry backgrounds, Jill and John are currently researchers at the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine in the UK.
The evening hosted over 60 attendees in person, with others also accessing the webcast live on the night. Attendees included SASMA Members, 3rd and 4th year Podiatry Students, University Lecturers and other Medical and Allied Health professionals interested in the topic. All took advantage of the networking opportunity at the beginning of the night.
Discussions following the presentation were based around 2 Clinical Cases, focusing on trends and appropriate decisions as part of each case, as well as general management of the patient.
SASMA work very hard to develop these education sessions for our Member’s. The next upcoming session is August 21 on the topic of ‘Imaging and Pain’. This session will focus on 3 Clinical Cases where a patient presenting has a complex pain presentation and multiple findings on imaging. The three regions include lower back pain, knee pain and forefoot pain. The Imaging and Pain Members Education Session will be presented by Tim Cocks (Chronic Pain Physiotherapist, NOIGroup) and Dr. Sunil Gupta (MSK Radiologist).
This session will also be available online via a Live Webcast so if you are unable to attend in person but still want to participate you will be able to view the presentations live online and have the ability to ask the speaker questions.
