SASMA Member working with the Hockeyroos

Tim had such a fantastic opportunity working with the Hockeyroos so we asked him a couple of questions to get abit of an insight of what it was like!

1.  What was the event and what was your role at the event/trip?
I am currently one of the travelling sports physiotherapists for the Australian Women’s Hockey Team (Hockeyroos).  Currently we are competing in the FIH Proleague; a home and away international tournament for the top 9 nations in the world.   Over the past couple of weeks I have been covering our away games in Auckland (NZ), Buenos Aires (ARG) and Lancaster (USA) on the pacific leg of the tournament

2.  How did you become involved in this opportunity?
I have personally worked in hockey for a long time and for the past 2 years with the Hockeyroos

3. What kind of work you did whilst you were working at the event / away with this team, e.g. what was a typical day for you?
A typical day is checking player wellness and a morning walk/ review.  Followed by a meeting with all tour staff  and then treatment, training or a game most days.  I am responsible for not only physiotherapy but the general health of the team as we are not traveling with a doctor for this trip.

4. What was a highlight for you?
The highlight of the trip was the sell out game in Argentina, they love their hockey and the crowd and atmosphere was amazing.

5. What is one benefit or one thing you learnt from working at this event?
One of the benefits of working this tour is the travel, we get to visit some amazing cities and the cultural differences between countries is extremely interesting.  Also the Hockeyroos players and staff are so professional and it is a pleasure to work with such a motivated and engaged group towards a common goal.

We look forward to hearing about his next trip, traveling to Toyko, Japan with the team for the Olympic test event in August this year!
