Courses and COVID-19 Update - Interim Solutions

 
Due to Government advice in regards to reducing the transmission of COVID-19 we are restructuring our Level 1 Sports Trainers Courses in the short term. The course structure will now involve:

  • An online course including assessment component to be completed first
  • A live webcast of theory presentations from the Face to Face day
  • A shortened face to face component to complete practical assessments (this practical component will be held at the location below. Exact date TBC)

The dates below for the courses are the date that the live webcast for that group will be held. Face to face components will be scheduled based on Government recommendations and advice. This session will be held in the original course locations.


Level 1 Sports Trainers Courses

The Level 1 Sports Trainer assists athletes in the prevention of injuries and provides initial sports injury management.  Level 1 Sports Trainers work at sporting clubs, school sports days, national and international events.

The Level 1 Sports Trainers Course consists of one face to face day plus an online component. You will cover the following topics:

The Sports Trainer in Action Medical Conditions
Introduction to Anatomy Trunk Injuries
Injury Prevention Head and Spine Injuries
Injury Management Environmental Injuries
Upper and Lower Limb Injuries Wound Management for sport
Nutrition Drugs in Sport
Ankle, Finger & Thumb Taping Moving the Injured athlete

Benefits of attending a SA Sports Medicine Association Sports Trainer Course

Benefits of attending the SA Sports Medicine Association (SASMA) Level 1 Sports Trainers course are:

  • Delivered to competency based outcomes
  • Delivered by experienced qualified Workplace Trainers & Assessors who are also experienced Level 2 Sports Trainers
  • Sports medicine professionals (Doctors and Physiotherapists) present key components of the course
  • Child Safe environments are addressed

Cost: $275 per person (when booked online)

Course prerequisites

A current Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) & CPR certificate is required to receive Accreditation. This can be completed prior to or after the course however accreditation will not be granted until evidence of current certificates has been received.

On successful completion of a SASMA Sports Trainers course?

A National Accreditation lasts for 3 years and is issued on successful completion of the course.  On Successful completion of the SASMA Sports Trainers courses candidates will be eligible to apply for Sports Trainer Membership and insurance through Sports Medicine Australia.
