Spinal Management and Advanced Taping Workshops

Spinal Management (9:30am - 12:30pm)

The Spinal Management Workshop is a 3 hour session aimed at working sports trainers and others involved in the care of athletes. This workshop is presented by a current SAAS Intensive Care Paramedic and covers the following topics:

  • The signs and symptoms of a casualty with suspected spinal injuries 
  • Learn how to move a casualty with suspected spinal injuries 
  • The principles of immobilisation for spinal injuries
  • The use of spinal boards
  • The management of head and spinal injuries 
  • The precautions necessary for the transportation of casualties with suspected spinal injuries

It is a prerequisite that participants have a current Provide First Aid (HTLAID003) Certificate prior to attending the Spinal Management Workshop.

 

Advanced Taping (1.30pm - 4.30pm)

This 3- hour practical workshop follows on from any taping experience that Sports Trainers may have gained through the Basic Taping Course, or as a practicing Level 1 Sports Trainer. The course is run over three hours and is designed to be as practical as possible. It gives participants the opportunity to learn from Physiotherapists and experienced Sports Trainers, using hands on practice participants will learn advanced taping techniques regularly seen in sport.

Taping techniques demonstrated include but are not limited to: Plantar fasciitis, Achilles Tendon, Knee, Elbow, Shoulder and Wrist Taping.

It is a prerequisite that participants complete a Basic Taping Course or an SASMA approved equivalent ie. Level 1 ST course prior to completing the Advanced Taping Workshop.
