“My journey in sports medicine started with a discussion with past SASMA president Dr Andrew Potter who advised me to join SASMA.
As a junior doctor, I attended SASMA’s Sports Medicine in General Practice course, where I met some of SA’s pre-eminent sports medicine experts.
I took this opportunity to link up with doctors like Marc Cesana and Andrew Potter (the current and former chief medical officers of the Adelaide Football Club) and started to develop my skills as a sport’s medical practitioner.
Having real world experience highly assisted my entry into specialist training as a Sport and Exercise Physician – and gaining this experience would not have been possible without SASMA”

You firstly need to hold a paid SASMA membership. The pathway to leadership opportunities within the organisation is to firstly apply through the annual EWP expression of interest request form. If successful many EWP member’s transition to the Council after a period on the EWP and some members directly are voted straight onto the Council. At the AGM each year Council nomination forms are sent out to members who can apply for a position on Council which is voted on at the AGM.

There are opportunities for members to present at the Sports Trainers and Community courses, contact the office to discuss these opportunities.
You receive reminders via email communication with simple online payment/renewal options. You can also log into your member profile via logging into the website (member code and user name can be found on the bottom of SASMA emails you receive).

Becoming a SASMA member provides opportunities for connecting to elite teams and our professional members that work with them. Positive feedback we commonly receive is about the networking and connections people make at events, often leading to invitations to shadow our members or to gain a mentor.
