SASMA Sports Safety TICK

Sports Safety TICK

Every club and school wants its participants to enjoy sport safely and stay involved for longer.

The Sports Safety TICK is a free online self-assessment developed by SASMA to help clubs and schools identify strengths, address gaps, and build safer sporting environments.

Through practical questions, resources, templates, and guidance, the TICK supports organisations to improve their sports safety practices and prepare for medical incidents, injuries, and emergencies.

Completing the Sports Safety Tick helps your organisation assess its current safety practices and identify opportunities for improvement.

By implementing strong sports safety systems, clubs and schools can better support players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators throughout the season.

Benefits of completing the Sports Safety TICK:
  • Improve participant safety and wellbeing
  • Reduce the risk and impact of injuries
  • Support player retention and long-term participation
  • Strengthen emergency preparedness
  • Assist with insurance and governance requirements
  • Access practical resources, templates, and guidance
  • Demonstrate your commitment to sports safety

After completing the Sports Safety Tick, your club or school will receive:

  • A summary of your current sports safety practices
  • Recommendations for areas of improvement
  • Access to practical resources and templates
  • Links to relevant education and training opportunities
  • Recognition through the Sports Safety Tick banner to promote your commitment to safety

The Sports Safety Tick takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

To make the process easier, we recommend:

FAQs

At SASMA, we are here to assist your Club/School/Council to provide a high standard of sport safety. All questions have links or steps to take to complete the question. If this is not possible, please contact SASMA and we can work with you to help achieve the TICK.

Potentially, yes! Please contact SASMA directly and we can work with you on a case-by-case scenario.

We expect most clubs/schools and councils already have these process and protocols in place. So, answering the questions should be quick and easy. If you do not currently have any of the standard practices in place it will take longer to first implement them and complete the TICK checklist.

We would recommend someone who has a good over-arching knowledge of your organisation should complete the checklist. This may be the President or Council member of a club, the Head of Sport for schools, or the Sport and Recreation Manager at councils.
