The SA Sports Medicine Association has been the leading organisation in South Australia dedicated to providing the sport, physical activity and recreation community with expert information, training and advice for over sixty years.

Through our multidisciplinary membership we provide advice on a diverse range of sport and exercise medicine issues. In the areas of prevention, management and education SASMA strives to excel.

Media Release: CONCUSSION IN SPORT – EVIDENCE ON HEADGEAR – FACT CHECK
The South Australian Sports Medicine Association (SASMA) is funded by the South Australian Government to deliver the Community Concussion education programs across the State, based on evidence and expert advice.

Concussion and the role of headgear has been a topic of significant global interest and we understand the desire to find safety measures to support safe participation in sport and activity. At the moment there is no conclusive evidence to support the use of headgear to prevent concussion.

SASMA strongly encourages ongoing concussion prevention and management research, including research into headwear development. When the significant volume of well-designed peer reviewed medical research into concussion reaches an internationally accepted consensus, we look forward to sharing the findings and promoting an evidence-based strategy for concussion prevention and safe participation in all sports.

This practical workshop is a great way for Sports Trainers to refine existing sports taping skills, learn new techniques, and ask questions of our expert presenters throughout. Our annual Conference brings together a range of Sports Medicine Professionals, Students, Sports Trainers, as well as the wider sporting community for a fantastic day of education and networking.
