To achieve the Level 1 Sports Trainers Accreditation participants will need to complete 3 components:
- Online Emergency Responder Course to be completed prior to webinar;
- Attend live theory webinar (done on April 27)
- Complete practical assessment session in person
You must complete all 3 components to become an Accredited Sports Trainer plus provide evidence of current Provide First Aid (HLTAID003 - valid for 3 years) & CPR (HLTAID001 - valid for 12 months) certificates.

Practical Component Date and Times:
Practical assessment sessions will be held in the following locations. Dates for the regional practicals will be scheduled based on location of webinar attendees. (after selecting webinar option you will be asked to select the location of where you will attend the practical assessment in the second step of your Registration):

The FAST Education Series will replace the Annual Conference in 2021. The FAST Conference provides Sports Trainers with the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops to further their skills and knowledge in relation to their Sports Trainer work.
Workshops are presented by Medical and Allied Health Professionals working in the Sports Medicine field. Registration for the event will give attendees access to 7 online workshops across the year, running from March through until October.
If you are unable to attend the live webcast of the session, by registering you will gain access to the recording to view at your convenience.

To complete a Level 2 Sports Trainers Accreditation Trainers must:
- Must attend each day of the course
- Have completed 12 months or 50 hours working as an Accredited Level 1 Sports Trainer (to be completed by the first day of the course)
- Be a current Accredited Sports Trainer with SASMA or SMA
- Have a current Provide First Aid & CPR Certificate (with a minimum of 3 months validity)
- Play By the Rules Online Training Certificates** (to be completed by the first day of the course)
- Asthma First Aid for Sport Certificate (online course through Asthma Australia: https://asthmaonline.org.au/product/asthma-first-aid-for-sports-clubs/)
Please note you will need to "Login" to register for this event as it is only available to those with a current Level 1 Sports Trainers Accreditation.
If you do not have a Username and Password you will need to register for the SASMA website (using your Accreditation Number on your Level 1 Sports Trainers Certificate).

Community Forum: Concussion in Sport, 10:30-12:00
Concussion affects the way the brain functions. Different people can be affected in different ways. This free community concussion forum has been designed by leading Medical Personnel to provide all those involved in Sport, from coaches, players, parents, officials, team managers and committee members with up to date information on concussion.
The forum will be presented by an experienced Sports Doctor/Sports Physician who is seeing and managing sporting concussions regularly and will cover:
- Concussion: Recognising and Game Day Management?
- The long term consequences of mismanagement
- When can a player return to school, work, training and playing?
- Implementing a policy: Is your Club Concussion Policy up to date?
- Risk Management: The responsibilities of the club, coach, first aid team and player when it comes to concussion
Sideline Help & Basic Taping Workshop, 13:00 - 16:00
The Sideline Help & Basic Taping Course is an introduction to sports injury prevention and management. This course takes a first aid course and makes it sport specific.
Topics covered include:
- Injury Prevention
- On Field Assessment of the Injured Athlete
- Injury Management including Concussion
- Management of Medical Conditions
- Wound Management and the blood rule
- Taping of the ankle, thumb and fingers

2021 SASMA Student Education Series
In 2021 SA Sports Medicine Association will once again be conducting an Education Series aimed at University Students and recent Graduates; in particularly those from Health and Medical Science degrees who are either currently working with sporting teams or have an interest in working with athletes and teams in the future.
This Education Series gives a practical nature to what students are learning at university as well as building on the basics that are taught in the SASMA Level 1 & 2 Sports Trainers course.
Session 1 -The Complicated Ankle
Ankle sprains present as one of the most common sporting injuries. They can be incredibly minor and resolve rapidly with simple interventions, but others, do not progress so easily. These so called “difficult ankles” may arise for various reasons, commonly due to an initial inaccurate diagnosis, poor management or poor rehabilitation.

Session 2 - Hamstring Injuries, Prevention and Rehabilitation
Despite the increase in knowledge surrounding Hamstring injuries, there prevalence within sport has not decreased. Hear from Athletic Development & Rahbilitation Coordinator at Port Adelaide Football Club, Daniel Rogers, as he discusses what is done at the elite sporting level to prevent hamstring injuries. He will also highlight the importance of rehabilitation in preventing reoccurring injuries.
