Regional Concussion Roadshows

Regional Concussion Roadshows

Concussion has been a major issue highlighted in the media over the past 12 months and because of this the focus on these regional visits has been around Concussion Management.

Over the last few weeks the SA Sports Medicine Association (SASMA) has been out and about visiting regional locations. Concussion has been a major issue highlighted in the media over the past 12 months and because of this the focus on these regional visits has been around Concussion Management.

The regional visits started off with a Concussion Forum held up in Barmera with Dr Duncan Walker, Adelaide Crows Team Doctor and SASMA Medical Director on the 13th August. Over 30 people from across the sporting clubs in the Riverland had the opportunity to pick the brain of Dr Walker in relation to the topic of concussion.

The following weekend Dr Alison Lydeamore, SASMA Member, presented our Concussion Forum in Port Lincoln with league officials, sports trainers, coaches, local allied health professionals and parents in attendance.

On Monday 21st August, we visited Tumby Bay Area School where we presented workshops on Sideline Help, Sports Psychology and Basic Sports Taping to the Year 9, 11 and 12 Students. It was great to see the enthusiastic students in each of the classes and a big thank you to Shane Masson for inviting us along to the school.

Later on that evening in Port Augusta, Dr Robert Buckley was skyped in to present a Concussion Management workshop to over 40 representatives from a range of clubs based in Port Augusta. There were a lot of coaches, club committee members, parents and players in attendance. Great to have the opportunity to highlight the importance of having everyone at a club on board when it comes to managing concussion.

We would like to thank all the clubs, leagues, councils and sports trainers for their support of these workshops.

SASMA aims to provide workshops and education to all of South Australia so if you believe this is something that could benefit your area please contact us on (08) 8234 6369 or email admin@sasma.com.au.
