2015 SMA-SA Update

2015 has begun at a frantic pace for SMA-SA.

The year began with a Level 2 Sports Trainers Course in early January with 24 people from across a range of sports upgrading their Sports Trainers Accreditation whilst learning new skills and expanding their knowledge. This was quickly followed by the SANTOS Men's and Women's Tour Down Under's, where we provided sports trainers and administration support to the Race Doctors, SMA-SA members Dr Mark Fisher and Dr Bridget Sawyer respectively.

February saw the start of the Sports Trainers Courses being run across the state in the lead up to the winter season. We have 7 Level 1 Sports Trainers Courses scheduled across the state prior to the winter sporting season kicking off with more courses being scheduled weekly as demand is high and courses are selling out weeks prior to the closing date of registrations.

The Level 1 Sports Trainers course has undergone a significant revamp for 2015 in regards to its structure. The course now involves only one contact day, with much of the theory being completed online prior to the course. The online component allows individuals to work through the theory at their own pace and in their own time, being able to log in and out of the course when they want.

With individuals introduced to principles and theories prior to attending, it has allowed us to make the contact day more practical and case study based. This allows the presenters to extend the thinking of the participants. Course participants still have the opportunity to hear from experienced Doctors, Physiotherapists, Sports Scientists and trainers.

We have so far sold out courses in Port Augusta, Rudall and two courses in Adelaide. There is still opportunity to register for other scheduled courses including Naracoorte, Balaklava, Kangaroo Island and Adelaide. To register click here.

Also don't forget the University Level 1 Sports Trainers Course for Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Medical, Paramedic and Human Movement students to be held on Sunday 22nd March. Only a few places are left in that. This is a great opportunity to get extra help around your club and for these students to get out and get some extra experience in the sports field.

We know that a lot of our promotion comes from Word of Mouth- so a big thank you must go to all of our Accredited Trainers. Without your help, we would not be seeing the high number of individuals coming through our courses.

What does the rest of the year have in store?

Professional Members
Soon we will be launching the Education Programs for Professional Members and University Students. We are excited with how many sessions are going to be run here in South Australia.

This year sees the return of the Sports Medicine in General Practice Course being coordinated by Dr Andrew Potter and Dr Marc Cesana. Registrations are open and a program can be found by clicking here. This course aimed at improving GPs examination, diagnostic and management skills in the area of musculoskeletal and sports medicine.

The State Members Conference will be held on Sunday 26th July and we can announce that Roger Rasheed will be the keynote presenter. Further details will follow in the coming weeks including a draft program.
